Huawei claims that it’s Mate X folding phone has been selling at a rate of 100,000 a month since its launch in China in November, according to Android Central. Huawei Mate X variant is only for sale in China sells for 16,999 Chinese yuan, equal to $ 2,400.
It’s just an estimate of sales for Samsung’s rival Galaxy Fold, though it’s not entirely clear how shy he is. The executive of Samsung “Young Sohn” incorrectly claimed that the Galaxy Fold had sold 1 million units but then updated that figure to CES 2020 to “400,000 to 500,000” since its launch in September.
Huawei and its competitor Samsung were the two main candidates in the race to bring a foldable phone to the market for the first time in 2019. At CES 2019, folding prototypes were plentiful. But Samsung beat most major competitors when the Galaxy Fold was launched, and then re-launched after a rough launch. Microsoft Folding Duo and Motorola Folding Razr will be released later this year.
Presented at the Mobile World Congress 2019, Huawei Mate X was originally scheduled for launch in July of the same year. The company pushed the launch until November to refine and improve its folding screen after Samsung delayed the launch of its Galaxy Folddue to production problems.
Huawei has not officially announced a release date for the Mate X outside of China, but previously said it would debut in Europe in the first quarter of this year. Half of the Mate X’s screen flips, so when closed, it has a screen on both sides. The second version of Mate X is expected to be presented at MWC 2020 next month.
At this year’s CES, the folding trend has extended beyond phones to laptops. The editors named Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold their best show for CES 2020, with the expectation that there will be more folding laptops in the coming months.
